statement

My artistic research focuses primarily on the undefined borders between various disciplines and materials, in order to further stretch those borders. I select materials that fit my visual language and my way of working. I explore the borders of paint by demonstrating the picturesque qualities of construction tape. Other construction materials further inspire me
in my exploring the border between low and high materials, as well as the border between 2d and 3d. This becomes visible in my tape paintings, as well as in my wall installations.

My tape research leads to clear compositions which, just like my other work, coincide thematically with my fascination for parallel universes. I am intrigued by an Asian phenomenon, called anti-room. This is a space where life and death collide, and that is not accessible for human beings. This place evokes contemplation and reflection on one’s own mortality. It is where the most absolute border dissolves. In Asian countries the anti-room manifests itself in temples that are not accessible. Within these closed temples mortality and eternity merge.

Sometimes a work inspires for words: associations, comments, or just complimentary. I shape these words into texts, which then become works of their own and in return inspire for new work.
